Actually they are both probably correct. Many four stroke motorcycle engine use a waste spark system, ie . it fires on the end of the exhaust stroke but there is nothing there to burn so that spark is wasted. Hence dual pulse in the 4 stroke cycle.
depends on if the timing signal comes from the cam or crank. I think the LS650 comes from the crank as there are no wires from the cam area like there are on that type. Car and truck engine ins the 90's with DIS systems did the same thing. The tach only need to know how to decide if the pulses are once every other revolution or each revolution. If the drag specialities one works on one Savage it should work on all as the manual only shows changes in the tansmission 4-5 speed and some carburetor jetting changes over the years.
